I find that the Bell Jar is a potent metaphor to use in response to the traditional cultural roles and expectations ascribed to Indian women, especially with regard to repressive domesticity. They were used in Victorian times to protect and display fragile ornaments. The imagery in these prints seeks to shed light on my observations that the security (of the Bell Jar) comes in exchange for conforming to a prevailing social order.

I’m inspired by Plath’s use of the bell jar as a metaphor to describe being trapped within internal mental states  and being on display at the same time. 

My use of the bell jars is ultimately about the outer stifling limits that are placed on us as well as the inner psychological restrictions that we place on ourselves.
